Yamaha Motor made its initial foray into India in 1985 as a joint-venture. In August 2001, it became a 100% subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, Japan (YMC). In 2008, Mitsui & Co. Ltd. entered into an agreement with YMC to become a joint-investor in India Yamaha Motor Private Limited (IYM).
IYM's manufacturing facilities comprise of 3 State-of-the-art Plants at Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh), Faridabad (Haryana) and Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu). The infrastructure at these plants supports production of two-wheelers and parts for the domestic as well as overseas markets.

National Parts Manager Grand Prix (NPGP)
Another step forward to ensure deployment of thoroughly skilled technical manpower, NPGP (National Parts Manager Grand Prix).Another new category of "Service Advisor" was introduced with the 8th edition of NTGP to strengthen the delegation of roles at the dealership levels with an objective of delivering "Kando" (i.e. a feeling of intense excitement and deep satisfaction) to Yamaha customers.
A new contest, NPGP (National Parts manager Grand Prix) was also introduced. NPGP was designed to judge the contestants skill set in the area of spare parts distribution and managing ware house handling and managing parts inventory.
